    The BMW 3 series was redesigned for the 2006 model year.

Restraints/dummy kinematics

    Dummy movement was well controlled. The head curtain airbags on both the driver and passenger sides deployed during the crash. During rebound, the dummy’s head contacted the inflated driver head curtain airbag, which kept the head away from any stiff structure that could cause injury.

    Measures taken from the dummy indicate a low risk of any significant injuries in a crash of this severity.

    The BMW 3 series was redesigned for the 2006 model year. Beginning with 2006 models manufactured after November 2005, changes were made to the side airbags and door trim panels to improve occupant protection in side impact crashes (note: information about when a specific vehicle was manufactured is on the certification label typically affixed to the car on or near the driver door). The tested car was manufactured after modifications had been made.

    Driver - The dummy's head was protected from being hit by any hard structures, including the intruding barrier, by a side curtain airbag that deployed from the roof.
    Rear passenger - The dummy's head was protected from being hit by any hard structures, including the intruding barrier, by a side curtain airbag that deployed from the roof.
